§ Bio

I'm Umut — a Lead Frontend Developer based in Istanbul, Turkey, working on some of Turkey's largest media platforms.

For years I've been building the frontends, video infrastructure and ad-tech systems behind HaberTurk, BloombergHT and ShowTV — platforms that serve millions of pageviews a day. The work spans custom HTML5 video players, CDN architecture, design systems and Laravel/Blade integrations — everything from a marker plugin nobody notices to the design system everyone uses every day.

I care about craft. About moving fast without cutting the corners that matter. About writing defensive code that doesn't fail quietly, and knowing when a recurring bug is really an architecture problem in disguise — the kind worth pausing to rebuild properly instead of patching around forever.

Outside of work I build HopeVideoJS, an open-source, customizable Video.js-based player solution.

§ Principles

Built for scale

I've spent years shipping to platforms that serve millions of pageviews a day — news, finance, broadcast. Code that survives that traffic isn't clever, it's careful. Defensive by default, instrumented end-to-end, and resilient to every browser version still out there in the wild.

Fast, but not careless

Speed comes from preparation, not shortcuts. I move quickly because I've seen how this kind of work breaks at scale — so I know which corners can be cut and which absolutely cannot. Ship daily, but ship things that hold up under scrutiny.

Rebuild it right

When small bugs keep surfacing in the same area, that's rarely a bug problem — it's a design problem. I'd rather pause and rewrite that piece properly than keep patching around it. A clean architecture pays itself back tenfold over the next year of changes, and saves the next developer from inheriting a maze.
